Webkinz

Do you know about Webkinz (the plush "pets" and the website)?  Are they educational or just entertaining?  To put my question another way: Are Webkinz good for a child or just a commercial product?

RE: Webkinz

I have to admit it seems alright and it is a good way to teach a chilled responsibility, and the best thing nothing happens if the pet is abundant.

RE: Webkinz

The actual dolls find their place to the doll shelf and stay there. The Web game, on the other hand, seems to be very appealing and interesting. My daughter is 8 years old and she loves it. I see a few benefits:

1) She's happy (that's the main thing, isn't it?)

2) She practices her English (We live in Israel so it's important)

3) She takes responsibility. She actually works to keep her pets happy.

4) she is constantly improving her computer skills.

I think its all good.

RE: Webkinz

I am a manager of a specialty toy store- I have researched the Webkinz and found that it is a combination of education and entertainment. I was really impressed with the low price, it is affordable and children benefit greatly in terms of entertainment and education. On the downside I do not understand why the website shuts down "for construction" (it has done this to me every night as I am playing)- this is irritating to the user, there must be many frustrated children! I would expect more from Ganz as they are obviously profiting greatly.

RE: Webkinz

While Webkinz are a commercial product, they are educational as well. There are many activities and areas on the official website that cannot be accessed by the child until they have completed a certain number of social studies questions, or math problems, etc. I love the product because I am able to leave my child unsupervised on the computer and know that they cannot find themselves exposed to content they shouldn't be. This website is fantastic. I also appreciate the fact that I am able to sell the product at the lowest prices available and fight the price gouging going on at retailers and online while comfortable with the fact that I am providing parents with a wholesome product.
