My gas hot water heater has a slow leak. Is there anything I can do to fix this?

If the leak is coming from the tank the only fix is tank replacement.. Most probable..    If the leak is coming from the pipe fittings, on top of the tank, or the drain spigot on the bottom of the tank  then it repairable.   If it is a  tank leak don't delay to replace the unit .... Small leaks tend to become major leaks rather quickly !!! (along with major water damage in the residence)

If it's a water leak, time for a new one. If it's a gas leak, it's probably at the pilot tubing, wish I had a dollar for every pilot tubing leak from the factory that I have tightened.

If you dont Know for Sure Always ask for help even if you have to Swallow your Pride

Hello,it's going to depend on where the leak is if it's on the outside csing you could try to drain your whole tank and a hardware store may have like a special sealer like a liquid metal to put ion the spot and let it sit long enough to make sure it's plenty dry, even if you have to take a tiny heater and blow hot air on the repair spot to speed up the drying process,i think a hardware store might just have something like a tube of like liquid metal for a repair on metal,i'd ask the person in the plumming dept if they have anything like that.Jim

When the tank gets a hole, you have to replace the water heater.  If the inlet or outlet fittings start to leak, they can be replaced.
