Water in Diesel fuel

A friend of mine has a 2004 Isuzu d-max pickup that has a major problem.  The problem started when the indication lamp of water in fuel let and while he was looking for a safe place to park away from traffic the engine stopped and didn't start again even after draining the diesel fuel from the tank, fuel lines, filter/water separator and the pump and injectors lines and filling the whole system with a clean diesel. He took his pick-up to the distributer where he was shocked due to the repair fees they asked for. Is there a suitable remedy to solve his problem? Your prompt reply is highly appreciated. Thanks alot...

As it seems the damage may be done already! The majority of diesel engine failure is caused by the fuel. Diesel fuel is known to contain biologics, referred to by some as algae (they are not algae --- but they can certainly replicate and appear like a algae, and either way cause problems and even major failure). Diesel fuel also contains water (all fuels do) and can even get more in storage and use.

There is no panacea to fix the damage once it has occured. So that leaves me to two words --- 'preventative mantainence!' or an 'ounce of prevention'. A fuel additive fits this bill. There are many on the market, but I would recommend "Fuel Right" on the net retail at www.yourdieselsolutions.com. It shows a proven track record since 1996, tested in the real world and priced competively. It treats the system by coating the tank with amines and the lines all the way through. This coatng does two things --- keeps corrosion from taking place and leaves no place for the biologics to attach and grow.

By its blending, FR will loosen slowly any formed sludge and remove it through the exaust (burn it). Also, the coating allows no place for mosture to collect and corrode the tank or lines. Prevent before it happens! Many of the products on the market are 'snake oil' --- there is a nice test that has been preformed with their competitors that show the difference.

Also, Your Diesel Solutions has a product called the 'Water Magnet' that will remove water that has pooled in the bottom of your tank. It really is not a magnet but pulls the water out of the fuel much like a 'PIG' pulls oil spills out of water.

The big thing to remember is prevent! Every batch of diesel fuel is different from any other one, some are great, some are good and some are...
