Volcanoes in Yemen

A volcano erupted in Yemen today, and I didn't even know there were active volcanoes there. When was the last time it happened in Yemen?

There are

quite a few volcanoes in Yemen. According to this site the last eruption was in 1937.

Thanks for all the fish!

I think that OrenB is right.  The volcanic field called Harras of Dhamar "was the source of the only 20th-century eruption in the Arabian Peninsula, where possible explosive activity occurred in 1937."  (

It was not on the Yemen land, but 110 km from the Yemen's shore, in the middle of the Red-Sea. It is an volcanic island, emerging from 1200 m under the sea. The name is JABAL-AL-TAIR, and the last eruption was in 1883. A part of the volcano collapsed and the rest of the island was covered with lava. The island is oval in its shape, with diameter 3.4 km.
