Vitamins, minerals, oil, supplements needed for a woman of 34 and needed as she ages?

What supplements (whether vitamin, mineral, antioxidant, oils, etc.) should be taken by a fairly healthy woman of 34 and continue to be taken as she ages?  Only this year have I begun pay attention.  I notice a lot of constant stiffness and pain in my joints, and I get different advice from everyone I know -- fish oil, cod liver oil, flaxseed oil, wheat germ oil, Osteo Bi-Flex containing glucosamine and chondroitin, a GNC woman's multivitamin.

There seems to be so much advice, and I can only take so many supplements per day.  What do you highly recommend that works?  Because I don't want to have such a laundry list of them that I cannot keep up with taking them.

At 34 I think it's more important to make sure your diet is balanced and that you're exercising before taking any supplements.  Case in point, I had a nagging pain in my 40 year old knee.  Once I got serious with exercising, walking and stair climbing, the pain went away and it has stayed away.  If you're confident your diet and exercise are where they should be, then go to supplements.  I'm sorry, I can't be much help there, except I have heard that glucosamine is good for healthy joints.

This is a complaint I here all the time and an issue I dealt with personally many years ago. How does one sort through the vast amount of conflicting information about supplements and choose the Best combination of vitamins and minerals they should be taking? How does one manage the numerous bottles of pills it would take to get everything you need? As a former triathlete and someone who has devoted my life to health, nutrition and fitness I tackled this question nearly a decade ago. The result is a product -

Damage Control Master Formula - and my company - Primal Nutrition. I know it sounds like I am just trying to sell you something, but when I see this type of question asked and people in this sort or quandary I can't help but point out my product - one that thousands of people are taking across the country. Damage Control Master Formula has everything you need and then some. It takes all the guesswork out of choosing a multi-vitamin and makes taking your vitamins easy. It is the most comprehensive multi-vitamin super supplement on the market and anyone can reap the benefits of it. If you are interested please visit our website. the 3 oils are great; fish, cod liver, & flaxseed. muti-vitamins are really good, but sometimes you need a higher dose of certain ones, that you should buy seperately. calcium is good for bone strength. numbness in arms & legs, you'd need B12. if you have very heavy periods, there's a probability that you have some anemia(low iron), you should take iron, and also vit.C (which helps the iron absorb better). You should purchase a vitamin book. it will give full descriptions and recommended doses. dosing is very important. too little can caude some major defficiancies, but too much can cause many problems and even severe health risks. and as always, if you take medication daily, ask you dr. or pharmacy, if any of your meds. would interact with the vitamins you want to take. some can effect the absorbancy of your meds. good luck.

Supplements and vitimins are just a marketing ploy to make money for big business - they scare you into believing they are necessary. These days, most people know what a healthy diet is. Eat vegetables and fruit, always choose whole foods and make sure you exercise.

We are brainwashed into thinking that we can't have perfect health when all it takes is averagely decent food and sensible exercise. Most of our ill-health comes from 'stress' - in other words, psychological causes and no supplements help there.

Educate yourself as much as possible on what it right for you not what others take for their bodies. I take something similar to what you are taking for the same issues, but take it further by keeping my body detoxed.  Go to a good health food store that sells organic products.  There are also plenty of websites out there that not only sell products, but also educate.  A good one I like is

Simple Advice for a Better Quality of Life!

Hi Ecrivaine32,

In today's day and age, taking a multi-vitamin is essential!  And yes, there are a lot of inferior supplement products on the market as the FDA doesn't really 'regulate" the industry.  I too found myself in a similar position about 5 years back.  I was aging & depressed but kept an overall good health through exercise and diet.  But I still felt low on energy and achy. People are right when they say we can get all the nutrients we need from diet, but almost no one has the time to prepare 4-6 nutritionally balanced meals a day (3 meals/day does not cut it because our bodies cannot absorb all the nutrients in that meal...it is better to spread your meals out so the nutrients come in usable amounts or your body takes what it needs and eliminates the rest.).  Back to supplements, most of the supplements on the market are "junk" (over 90%) with ingredients that never even get to our small intestine to be absorbed due to their inferior ingredients.  I am not trying to be salesy, but you can visit vitaminmagi.com and get some great recommendations.  My recommendation is if you want one and only one multi-vitamin to have to take each day, choose one of these 2 - http://vitaminmagi.com/blog/?page_id=4

Take my word for it, you will never feel better.  As for bone and joint health, well as you know women are very susceptible to osteoporosis.  If you take one of the above multi-vitamins and feel you need to supplement a little extra for joint health, try one of these -   http://vitaminmagi.com/blog/?page_id=14   ...the Xtend-Life Bone Protec has the highest quality of coral calcium

As stated before, I'm not trying to sell you anything, just trying to inform people about what is quality and what is not.  Anyway, if you want more good reading/recommendations, just stop by vitaminmagi.com.  BTW, the Xtend-Life Total Balance cured my depression, vastly improved my energy/stamina levels and literally made me feel as if I were turning back the clock on my body.  That is my favorite to use in my quest for the "fountain of youth".  I also wrote an article to help people in learning what to look for in supplements, you can find it here -

Choosing the Right Supplement

Be your best, live healthy Ecrivaine32!

At the age 34, I would suggest the High Potency Vitamin D-3 which help to make your bone much stronger because it has a super-potent bone nutrition, and works to absorb and use calcium efficiently. Another one is 100% Pure & Natural Ubiquinol which good for healthy heart, it has super absorbable, body-ready form of CoQ10 and stabilized, reduced form for safe, reliable cellular health support.
