Visiting London in Dec - Completely lost on details

I am planning to visit london in Dec 17th - 21st. So far I am completely lost as to where I am going to stay and how to travel about. Trains and the tubes are all new to me as we have none where I live lol. I want to find a cheap nice hotel in London with easy access to transport for the main shopping area, London Eye, London Dungeon, Natural History Museum and Sciene musuem etc.
Can anyone suggest a hotel for those?
Also what do I do for travelling to these locations. I've been reading a bit on both Oyster Cards and TravelCards but I'm not sure which is best for what I need ???

Hi there,

I would recommend looking into the London Travel Pass as far as touring goes.

How You Benefit from The London Pass

  • Free entry to your choice of over 55 Attractions – including the Tower of London, St. Paul’s Cathedral, Windsor Castle, HMS Belfast and many more
  • A free 128 page Guidebook – available in 7 different languages containing a wealth of detailed information including maps and directions as well as great tips on how to make the most of the city
  • Skip the Queue at Top London Attractions – Save Time and make the most out of your sightseeing trip by skipping the long queues at Tower of London, London Zoo, Windsor Castle, Kensington Palace and Hampton Court Palace
  • Added Travel Option – add a London Travelcard to your Pass which enables you to use all public buses, the London Underground and trams ensuring that you make the most efficient use of your time
  • Save on up to £420 worth of entrance fees – that’s the aggregate price of all Adult entrances to Attractions contained within the 6 day Pass
  • Other Special Offers – along with the Guidebook, we will provide you with access to other great offers available to visitors to London, including discounted prices on West End theatre tickets, restaurant discounts and much more!

You can visit as many attractions as you want - even more with the time saved with fast track entry. You don't need to carry too much cash and the London Pass keeps control on your spending.

As for accomodation, try www.hostelz.com. I've used it before and it was great.

Have a wonderful trip!

Hi,

The number of hotels available is considerable, but your visit is planned during a peak visiting time, so I'd recommend getting it finalised as soon as possible. For booking engines - I'd recommend Laterooms.com or Booking.com, for having a good pool of hotels and being large enough to offer good discounts.

In terms of travel - I'd recommend travel cards, over Oyster. The best bang for buck is either the weekly or the 3-day, 2-zone Travelcard. (your hotel room should ideally be within zone 1-2).

The website I run covers the ins and outs of transport and also gives a guide to the best sights and attractions. If you have any further questions - direct them either here or at the site and I'll point you in the right direction.
