Vintage clothing shop owners spend a good amount of time finding clothes for their store from a variety of places. Many scour estate sales, flea markets, garage sales and thrift stores. Any place where used clothing is sold is a possible target. Usually, the store owners will keep a look out for sales of any kind in the newspaper classifieds or Craigslist. Vintage clothing store owners in larger cities may also drive to other regions to collect stock from smaller towns, which may have not been as picked over as the selection in larger cities. Once looking for their selection, these owners take quality into consideration. Before purchasing a garment, they check places are generally more prone to breaking, such as armpit and crotch seams. A vintage garment's wear and quality can be gauged by the quality of its most sensitive seams. Sometimes vintage clothing shop owners will have clothes come to them. It is not unusual for some vintage clothing shops to buy clothing. Many great pieces may come to them through someone whose relative just passed or just someone with a few great finds wishing to make a profit. As such, they will simply purchase vintage items of clothing directly from someone who brings them to the store, price them and set them out on the floor.
