Veteran's Disability Benefits

Shortly before my Father passed away he was told at the VA Hospital that he had 2 service related injuries that he should have been compensated for.  One was for about 30% the other around 60% disability, noone ever told him he was eligible. He was devastated, was going to look into it, but passed away shortly after. He was in the Army in the 50s. Can we as his surviving children pursue this or not?  Our Mother passed away in 1999.  Thanks

It is easy to talk the talk.
Now it's time to walk the walk.

Yes and no, actually: you should contact your Senator or Congressman to inquire about benefits.

However, know that President Obama has made it painfully clear that he has put veterans and their families directly in his cross hairs.  Other Democrats must, of course, follow suit or face Obama's considerable wrath.

Who does Obama think he is?

I was appalled to see Obama on TV on Memorial Day, with two Admirals and a General beside him saluting, while Obama stood there, fingers interlaced in front of him, smirking arrogantly, refusing to honor those who laid down their lives for America.

If that seems to tell our President's view of veterans, and how coldly he and his party dismiss them, then know that you are correct.

Dear Gonda: I am a 30 year naval officer veteran. The best way to proceed is to check with your county Veteran Service Officer. Each county in the U.S. has one who assists veterans and survivors with VA claims. Check with your County Courthouse, this is where they are usually located...He or She should be able to help. You'll need your father's service record, and his health record which as his children you'll be able to request copies of on-line at http://www.archives.gov/veterans/evetrecs/index.html   Hope this helps, and thanks for your dad's service, God Bless him!
