Something related to his hobbies, or 2 ticket passes to something he might enjoy or get to select (a concert he likes, movie tickets that he can be promised to select the movie to and you go along, etc.)

Most guys though, although they like getting them, never really hold on to cards that much.   So don't go overboard, or don't worry about the card as much.

I think you should think what would make him really happy. Just think about his hobbies or perhaps something he's been talking about. Sometimes there are things people would love to get as presents but wouldn't buy for themselves for different reasons.

Another possibility is to try and ask his friends or parents if they know about anything he's been talking about. They might have a lead that'll help you.
