Tickets to a concert or sporting event you know he's dying to see would thrill him.If you got him something like that he would know you've been listening and you know what he likes.Or a DVD set of his favorite old shows like Cheers.Or a vintage poster of the band he loves.
If you don't want to be too pushy , just write him a plain greeting card, sometimes words are more powerful then anything. Think of something funny I am sure he will appreciate it.
