Can i have VPN connection without internet? We have application server at Head office, i just want to know if i can connect to the application while i'm at home via VPN?
VPN is the acronym for Virtual Private Network, and it is a way to create a secure connection between a nomad computer (like you working from home) to a LAN / network in a remote location (like your office). But this virtual secure connection must physicaly transmit and receive data, so there has to be some physical link between your computer and the office LAN. So the answer is - you DO need your computer to be connected to the Internet in order to have a VPN connection.
You also need to have some VPN server or Firewall installed in your office - your system administrator will know how to set it up.
If you don't want to bother with setting up a cable or DSL connection, you can try to use Wireless Internet (Wi-Fi). for this you need to have a Wi-Fi adapter on your computer (if you have a laptop there is probably one built-in; for a desktop computer, you can buy a USB Wi-Fi adapter for a few dollars in any electronics store). The best software to help you find and connect to open Wi-Fi is WeFi, you can doenload it for free from http://wefi.com/download .
