UCA Shooting Arkansas University 2 dead

2 dead one wounded in the Arkansas University shooting.

Would better gun control have prevented this murder?

Why is it that we allow our young ones to carry weapons like this?

No.  Pressing further regulation of firearms would not have prevented this.  Let me explain:

First, criminals are criminals because (by definition) they do not follow the law.

Therefore if the legitimate sales of firearms are restricted who does it affect?  That's right, the law abiding citizens.  Unfortunately, this model results in defenseless innocent people.

Furthermore, universities are "gun free zones" (as prescribed by 'the fewer guns, the better' doctrine).  This only serves to further skew the ratio of armed criminals to unarmed victims.

I feel for the families of the victims.  This is nothing short of a tragedy.

Maybe one day we will permit law-abiding citizens to defend themselves against lawless criminals.

GIVE a man a fish and you feed him for a day. TEACH a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.

SADLY, most fishermen are afraid to touch the worm.

Gun control wouldn't have changed anything, this has been proven time and time again. Chicago, NY, Wash DC all have the strictest gun control laws in the country and they have, far and away, the highest crime/murder rates.

Also, proven in study after study is that the Bad Guys fear only ONE thing, and that is an Armed Citizen.

NEVER in history has gun control been shown to work, except in taking power from the citizens and allowing both the criminals and the Government to dominate (and often destroy) the people of the country.

The lowest servant in Heaven is still in Heaven.

Geoff, I concur with you here.  The reason Hitler disarmed the Jews is that a disarmed person is easier to run into a concentration camp than an armed CITIZEN.

The reason Hitler could not take Switzerland is that the people had guns, and the training to use them responsibly.  That scares socialists who have clearcut designs on our families to re-enact the atrocities of the National SOCIALIST Party of Germany (You remember, the Nazis?).

We who have taken the time to learn history do not fall victim to extremists.

I thought we learned our lesson from Virgina Tec,  This is how it works,The criminal or mentally Disturbed Decided they have been wronged in there mind, had the sustem worked in Virgina techs case, the gunman would never have been able to buy a firearm as currnt laws in effect now and then would prevent it,the problem was they were not enforced,You are not permitted to buy a firearm if you have been committed to a mental Hospital like the virgina tech gunman had been ,that disqualifies him from owning or purchaceing a firearm both of which he was able to do,then committed his crime with them, thats a Batf Breakdown in enforcement of laws already in effect,if we can not enforce the laws already in effect, passing new ones will only dillute the effectiveness of the current enforcement of laws. Now looking at the Criminal state of mind,He decides he is going to kill someone or a bunch of people in a building, well lets just ban firearms all together so he cant, thats the blinds on a horse point of view to the problem as the killer is just going to lock all the exits to the building after he has walked thru it pouring gasoline thru the buildings bottom floor leaveing some full cans behind and light it up killing far more people than a single gunman can,or he can manufacture a bomb  out of simple household products such as the oaklahoma bombers did with disel fuel and fertilizer and blow the whole block up,,then there is knife attacks poison gas ,what Im trying to get across is its not the firearm thats the bad thing, nor the gasoline,or the bomb, its the persons state of mind and you can try to ban everything you think will stop it,but where there is a will there is a way,you take away all of the above and make them ulleagle and they will just run down a group of kids at a college with a bus or truck, you gonna ban them next???Your best bet is to leave people armed to defend themselves againsted nuts that carry out crimes like this so they have a chance to defend themselves,as the cops always show up to make a report 90% of the time.there doing the best they can with what they have. Most people who are licenced such as i am have had firearm training, and are qualifiued to use that firearm in a self defence situation of when someone elses life is in danger, actually people who hold concealed weapon permits get more range time in shooting and praticeing than most police officers, they have to qualify ,we shoot for sport and fun some of us every weekend hundreds and hundreds of rounds at a time.We shoot moving targets small targets all kinds of difficult situations, because we enjoy shooting most people have never encountered a situation where they need the use of there firearm,But its nice to have when I just made a with draw down at the bank from my acct and the big mouth teller says wow thats a lot of money your getting that will take a while to get and then counts it out to you as joe bankrobber or criminal watches as he is caseing the bank and sticks a gun in my face in the parking lot,and requests my withdraw,I give it to him and do what ever it takes to save my hard earned cash from walking away, people who do not fear criminals or think it will never happen to them are living in a fantasy world,We live in a good neighborhood and have most of our lives,Our home has been broken in to more than 3 times, once i was home,my Moms home twice ,my brother came home and heard them inside and called the cops who then locked him back up,as he had just got out of prison for kidnapping armed robbery, and is now serveing a 40 year term no gain time sentence ,It does happen and it will happen to you when you least expect it.we were lucky both times when we confronted the robbers and no one but the criminal got hurt,if your unarmed good luck.get proper training get a good dependable firearm ,a big dog and an alarm.

"Whom the gods would destroy, they first drive mad."  Euripides.

The more we see of the words of Obamites, the closer they come to madness.

Only we who keep our sanity will survive the Obamite rebellion.

So, if our left-wing extremists get their way, how are they going to control home made weapons like molotov cocktails?

Guns are not the issue.  It is leftist hatred and their demands to tyrannize us, break into our homes, confiscate our every means of self defense in the face of rising violent crime, and then thin the ranks of "undesirables" like me.

How many times must we see that disarmed people are always soft and irresistable targets?

Harden the target, and you reduce crime.  Particularly violent crime.  It is just that simple.

A disarmed populace is as old as the history of tyranny itself.

Caesar Augustus forbade Jews to carry knives.  It made them easier to crucify without any fear of retaliation.

Caesar Diocletian disarmed Christians so that it would be easier to herd them into the arena.

Hitler disarmed the Jews so that he could more easily herd them into extermination camps.

Stalin armed the people in WWII, so that they could fight the invading Germans.  Then he disarmed the people so he could purge his government of suspected dissidents like Sakharov.

I could go on and on and include despots we suffer today.  But why bother?  There is absolutely no use in trying to reason with leftists.

I feel as a Canadian, that tough gun control laws such as we in Canada have and seem to make a difference. With such controls, it limits individuals from grabbing a gun in a fit or rage and shooting up the town or loved ones.

Then on the other hand, those who are set out to shoot someone will find a gun on the street in a minute. Eventhough our laws do not permit everyone and anyone to carry a gun there are still shootings here. Look at the city of Toronto, Ontario. The latest shooting was a drive by and an inocent 20 year old mother on one was gunned down while standing outside of a local bar while having a smoke break. Ya, our numbers here in Canada do not match or come close to some cities in the USA but then not all shootings are in the news. When one looks at the increased issues with drugs in Canada, whether in London, Toronto, or Vancouver, the majority of gun crimes are drug related. Yes there are others that are related to bullying in our schools, just as in the USA, but once again the larger numbers are drug related.

All I can say is that stiff gun controls, a change of attitude toward gun ownership in relation to the USA understanding of the Constitution could make it somewhat more difficult for someone to obtain a gun; especially those who can just walk into a store and buy a gun then go out and shoot their school mates. I saw on the National news one night that a father in one of the states had applied for a bank account in his 2 year old son's name. There was a promotion at that local bank which stated; if you/anyone opened a new bank account at that branch the individual would receive a new riffle. That same day after the account was opened in the 2 year old boy's name, he received his new riffle.  This can happen legally due to a single line in the US constitution, "the right to bare arms". Just think about it, that line was introduced so that individuals could legally have a firearm without question if the land was/is being invaded by an enemy. In this day and age, who is the enemy? Ya, we have clowns like Bin Laden and his flunckies, but other than that, we are our own enemy; and if you are that stuck on shooting people then join the army and go overseas to shoot the Talibaun forces over there.

I think that if someone lives in a city, town, or village and is not either a Police officer, member of your armed forces, or registered  hunter /sports/competitive shooter or a farmer - then what the heck do you need to have a gun for??

Just think about it, if some clown were to break into your home to rob you and he has a gun, then what chance would you ever have against this clown. Either way, you as the innocent one will be shot and not the putz who is robbing you.

Think about it.

Since the Brits instituted strict gun control, their crime rate has gone up over 400%. Now they're discussion banning knives. Australia's crime rate went up 300% when they instituted strict gun control. They're now making overtures to repeal some of their laws in that respect.

Canada's gun control/registration laws have cost over a BILLION dollars and have been virtually abandoned. The RCMP no longer enforce these laws.

Point in fact, you CANNOT site a single instant in history where gun control actually worked and reduced crime.

HOWEVER, in the US, every single state that has passed concealed carry laws has realized a significant drop in crime, while the states that haven't have seen increases. Moreover, the cities, LA, Chicago, NY, Washington DC that have the strictest gun controls are the murder capitols of the country. Chicago, with it's 40 year ban on ALL weapons has the highest murder rate in the country. Both Chicago and Washington DC have cumulative death rates GREATER than the Iraq war.

Historically, every national atrocity that has occurred starting with Nazi Germany has disarmed their citizens BEFORE the atrocities took place.

While you may well be emotionally convinced that gun control laws are beneficial, you are factually off base by large margins.
