Triathlons

I came across an article that says "The first part of triathlons is the swim (if it is run in a standard order)". I was surprised to read this. Are there any triathlons that run a different order? I think the standard order makes a lot of sense.

It seems the author's knowledge of sport is not strong, I have never heard of running triathlon in other than standard order which is swimming - cycling - running. For more info on the subject follow:

You have to make a difference between an olympic triathlon to a non olympic one. Olympic triathlons rules are strict and clear. It's and olympic profession on all it's aspects. There are many, non olympic, different contests which cover more then one profession. These contests, sometimes called triathlons because they cover 3 professions, may have different rules according to the organizers. You'll be suprised and sometimes even amused how different can the rules get.

Great help and advice for health, fitness, and sports nutrition.

Most triathlons will be swim-bike-run triathlons.

But sometimes triathlons include canoeing or kayaking instead of the swimming portion, and this makes the logistics a little harder, as this will cover a longer distance than swimming.  A lot of these run as run-canoe-bike or run-bike-canoe.
