I recently went to a new doctor and noticed he was located in something called the Professional Building. I felt better right away.

Treatment of Diabetes

Do you think teenagers should be allowed to use an insulin pump to treat their diabetes?

As a mother with a child with diabetes, I have gone back and forth as weather to allow my son to use the pump. Insulin pumps are used by tens of thousands of teens worldwide but they are linked to many injuries and even deaths! The federal review of use by young people over a decade found 13 deaths and more than 1,500 injuries connected with the pumps. There were some malfunctions with the pumps but a lot of the time the teens were careless and took risks they shouldn't have. I think that it is nice that a teen can live a normal life because of these pumps but I also believe that the parents need to help administer and watch over their children (at least when they first get the pump). I personally believe my son is too immature to use this pump after reading about how careful a person needs to be with it.
