Treating Children Only with Prayer

Would you as a religious parent choose to treat your children only through prayer, totally believing in the power of the Lord to heal your child, rather than going to a doctor?

The Lord will show you the right way, and will reveal the reasons in due course. I don't think parents who take their children to the hospital or to the doctor have less faith than those who don't.

God directs the doctor's hand anyway.

This is a difficult question.  A child's parents or guardians normally get to decide on health care.  But we have laws against child abuse or neglect.  So is prayer healing a type of traditional health care?  Or is it child neglect, especially if modern medicine is avaialble?

Maybe the answer is that prayer is legitimate in modern society up to a limited point.  Once the child's life or health is in significant danger, the parents must seek medical help.

No.

I believe G-d helps those who help themselves and I believe G-d provides us with medical services as a tool to help ourselves. Imagine a person in a burning house and when the firemen arrive to help him he says he's not going anywhere cause he's waiting for G-d to save him. I would say this person is a fool since G-d has helped him by sending the firemen. Just because there aren't lightning bolts and miracles doesn't mean G-d isn't playing a major role.

I think parents should pray and seek the Lord...He does not always choose to bless in the same ways over and over again.  A new day is cause for a new blessing.  We never know who, where, or when He might use us or our situation as a door for someone else to see Him at work.  Sometimes that is in the doctor's office.  Seeking His face should always be first; doctors and the abundance of knowledge we have in the U.S. are blessings from God as well that we should not take for granted.  I'm sure there are many people in other countries that can see that easily.

Just my thoughts. Smile
