I am from Montreal, Canada, and plan to travel to china for 6-7 weeks during summer. Air tickets appear to be cheaper landing to Hong Kong rather than Shanghai or Beijing. I am wondering if this is a good idea or if it will get me more troubles getting in China from Hong Kong, i.e. Visa, transport, etc.

My wife and i have travelled to China over 2 yrs from Australia and found it simpler and cheaper to go to H/K first and then on to China. We have flown Cathay Pacific to H/K and then used there other airline Air China. Ask your travel agent to barter for cheaper prices to China through C/Pacific. When in H/K try and visit Stanley markets,Macau and Kowloon great spots. Also if you want clean and cheap hotels they are in Kowloon. H/K is very expensive.
To say nothing, especially when speaking, is half the art of diplomacy.
