Is My Transmission Totally OUT..?

Transmission Trouble.... I have a chevy truck with a 4L60E 4 speed automatic.. and with no warning.. it stopped shifting into 3rd and 4th gear BUT reverse 1rst and 2nd are fine and the fluid looks fine. Does this need a total rebuild or just a repair..? Please Help Me I am disabled. live on a very fixed income and need advise on how to avoid being ripped off. ANY help would be wonderful..
