Timing position actuator problem

I have a 2004-1/2 kia spectra.  My "service engine soon" light came on.  I brought it to a local Advance Auto parts store and had a diagnostic test performed.  They told me there was a defect with my  "timing position actuator".  What can I do, short of bringing it in to a dealer?
