Timeline visualisation for everyday use

We all use timeline visualistion tools such as the clock, the calendar, as well as those lines with dates and events written for those dates. Are there any other way of visualising timelines?

Alot of sailors and people in that line of work that can use the stars and position of the sun to accurately tell time and date.

Apart from this, I don't think there's much more as far as practical ways go.

If you find a chick with a really punctual menstrual cycle you can tell the time off her.

Then there's the ground hog but that's been proven to be getting more and more inaccurate.

Same with hibernation patterns thanks to climate change.

I see I have posted a vague formulation of my question. I will try to clarify it by a few examples. For instance one can visualise time on paper as a table of rows with seven days - the classic calendar. Project management software often shows all days in a row and horizontal coloured lines, as well, to show the duration of an event. The face of a clock visualises the timeline of one day and night by a circle. I am asking about some other ways of visually notating timelines.

The ancient Egyptians used a water clock and of course there is the familiar hour glass used in games and in the kitchen. Today, with complex systems that must be checked there are check lists that are time related. Hope this adds to your list.
