Our 4 Thompson Seedless Grape Vines have been growing great this spring. Our first time of planting and growing grapes was last spring when we planted in our backyard here in far south east Chandler AZ. They grew great last year, the vine part no grapes and we trimmed them back after the leaves fell off. Now this year 2009 the vines are very beautiful, plenty of leaf growth with many small and big clusters of grapes that have kept getting larger over the past six weeks or so. Today May 17, 2009, Over the past week or so parts of some of the clusters of the grapes are like turning black, shrinking up like over night. What is happening? What can we do to help save the rest of our grapes. They were so picture perfect and now we are afraid we are going to loose all of them. URGENT HELP IS NEEDED. We will greatly appreciate any help you can give us. K & E in Chandler AZ.
Im sorry I just found your question. I think you have the same problem I do and it's a plague called GLASSY WINGED SHARPSHOOTER, small black insects that look like a big staple. I found and article the internet that says spraying "IMIDACIOPRID" is the solution to that problem. Also "YELLOW STICKY TRAPS" 100-200 feet apart that have to be replaced every two weeks. Hope this helps and believe me I feel your pain.
