I am a 55 year old peri-menopausal white female veterinarian just diagnosed with widespread nodules of lungs (no scarring), liver and splenic Sarcoidosis. I have concerns regarding starting Sarcoidosis treatment with steroids, as I already had/have problems with weight gain, muscle mass loss and weakness, significant depression and extreme irritability, hence 1)Is there [outcome]data regarding a lower dosage of steroids that might work in my case or any other treatment options that are not riskier e.g. cancer risk increase, nor more toxic, for a case like mine? 2) I read that initial treatment with steroids may be incriminated in causing RECURRENT sarcoidosis (versus total remission/permanent cure)--is that true? 3)What are the chances of complete remission, with or without treatment, versus lifelong or recurrent Sarcoidosis, for me: a 55 year old peri-menopausal white female veterinarian just diagnosed with widespread nodules of lung, liver and splenic Sarcoidosis? Thank you for your aid and assistance. Kimberley A. Tyler, DVM
