How is that tennis players who made no impression at all playing as singles are winning titles in the doubles? What makes a tennis player a good doubles player?

Interesting question. I believe that's a mixture of many qualities like teamwork, strategy and of course good volley and "on the net" game. Many information, techniques and tips over the web of course. I've found

this page very summarizing.

Players who couldn't hack it in the singles find a partner who can compensate for their weaker points. The doubles game has a strong element of team work and this enables doubles players to climb out of anonymity and reach glory.

The doubles game also has longer points, more net work, a faster pace and completely different strategies.

Hope I was helpful.

I agree on the prior answers, but I must mention the fact that doubles money prices are way behind the singles money prices, so the best players in the world focus on the singles events, whre the big bucks are, leaving the way for other players to win on doubles.
