Tenderness, discomfort and pain lower left side of torso

I am having this tenderness, discomfort and sometimes a shooting pain on my left side of my body about the same level as my stomach. Touching my side with my hand produces a little pain. It's been off and on like this for two or three months. Sometimes I drink too much red wine and I also put on 40 pounds in the last year since I gave up smoking. I'm 59 years old white male.

It could be a number of things but at your age you cannot be too careful so go and see a doctor as pains in the left side of the body are tell-tale signs of heart problems.

Dennis, I recommend you make an appt with your family Doctor. Upper left quadrent pain could in indicitive of gall bladder problems or pancreas problems. You should not ignore these symptoms and hope they go away, early detection= early treatment resulting in a better outcome. best of luck to you.:-)
