Aktimel,

The best advice I can offer with regards to growth curve is to try to analyze which existing web sites are "similar" to yours, with regards to interaction model (edited content site, user generated content, one to one, one to many, etc), domain, "viralness", etc.

Once you've figured that out, pick from the similar services one that is considered a success and one that is considered as less-of-a-success (e.g. failure). Then, try to find out the traffic stats data points for these two services in their first year, and create your projections based on these.

Yeah, like Yaniv said, you should narrow down what you are looking for, maybe it would be easier for people to help you if you could give us more specific details. There are too many different kinds of websites, so I don't think you would be able to find material generic enough to fit your needs. But Yaniv gave you better advice than I could give you. I would only add this: if you could be a little more specific, then maybe we could try to find something that applies to your specific needs.

I would follow on to Yaniv's comment by recommending the use of Alexa.com to analyze the traffic, page views, etc. of those websites you find comparable to your site concept.

I also see that you are asking something beyond Yaniv's answer. I think both he and I might be better able to assist if you provided a little more clarity. We need to understand things like the vertical market you intend to participate in, the type of site (content, ecommerce, etc.), etc...

Hi again! Well, what I had in mind is a planning tool - an excel format or other (web based?) where one could plan various traffic generating means - exposures, publicity, traffic purchase, cooperation etc. on a scale of time. This way you can "plan" traffic buildup and using whatever means you have in an efficiant way (constantly changing of course). If I wont find one, I'll make one... and then be happy to share.

Hey Aktimel,  I have found a link which might interest you. This link will certainly not provide a complete business plan but will list a few tools which will provide some immediate, diverse data. I've already heard some positive opinions about this list, perhaps you'll find some relevancy within it as well.

Good luck! :)
