A baby is God's opinion that life should go on

Sandburg, Carl

Teaching religion equals child abuse?

I read today that the UN decided to promote secularization by prohibitting religious education and teaching for young children.  Aparantly if you are religious and want your kids to be religious like you, you are abusing them.

I find this outrageous.

Can someone forbid us to make our children good Christians?

I think that April Gilford reaction is "a bit too much", no one will stop you from teaching religion at your own home to your own children. But government schools and educational programs will be secularized; I do think this is for the best, because religion should be thought at home or after school. You must remember that the freedom of religion is one of the most basic concepts of the modern state. But you also should not forget that realign is a path taken by the individual citizen and not a highway which is built by the state.

While clearly I agree with you about freedom of religion, allow me to disagree concerning the different roles. As I hope any true believer could tell you, religion is not simply a lesson to be taught either by parents or at school. It is a way of life, and as such it inevitably encompasses all parts of the day, every hour of my life, and my future children's lives.

I think we're walking a very thin line here.

I agree with the sentiment expressed or suggested in the quote in that children should be given a choice of what to believe. Most 2 year-olds cannot understand the doctrine of the Trinity, for example. No one understands it entirely, but at least teenagers and adults have a better grasp of the underlying transcendental concepts.

I think this is an outrages doctrine put together by people who hate religion and want to fight it's existance and it's influance in our society, and they will go as far as to call it "child abuse" to get there way. It is a disgusting exuse to try and reduce relegious freedom in this country, and it's a far cry from the seperation of church and state issue which swissknife is refereng to. We already have seperation of church and state in our schools, and it is already out of hand and in my openion has reached the point of being opressive of religious freedom. I don't recall reading anything about schools in the article, what i read was that they want to make it illegal for you to teach religion to any child anywhere, untill they reach an unnamed age, becuase you are imposing your ideas on them and that somehow equals child abuse. Ofcourse as a parent imposing your values on your child is exactly what your job is and no one should be able to tell you when where and how to teach your child your releigion. I don't know where intinsi comes from, but in america once you are old enough the abilitiy to seek out a new path that is different from what your parents taught you is abundant if that is what you choose to do, and how does not teaching your child anything about any religion open their options? Teaching them everything about every religion is the only true way to open up options for them, ofcourse most people don't know everything about every religion, and you would still, have to tell the child which parts you beleive. Speaking of options if you look at a childs science book it filled with historical and scientific Theories That can not be proven, are still being argued, and contradict most religions around the world, that are being presented as Fact And are infact presenting all of our children with faith in science as the only religion. For the record millions of people around the world understand the trinity, you just arent one of them, and while a two year old may not understand it, no one should be able to tell me that i can't teach them about it. All the morals that most people have come from a religion, religion is a way to teach children right from wrong, and to teach them about god, and the planet, and the universe, and history it gives them an option from the lies in their school books. It is a very important aspect of human life, and should not be allowed to be repressed in any way. This idealism will lead to a completely godless society, because by the time we would be allowed to teach our children about god and the miricles of life, they will already have been fully inundated by the state with their lies that god does not exist.
