Teaching Technology

I teach English in buenos Aires , Argentina and I have been coordinating Projects conderning ICT too. I wanted to know how ICT is dealt in the parto of the world where you live. Is there a Technology teacher who is in charge of  teaching how to use a computer or the teacher her/himself is the one who teaches kids how to use computers while they do activities?

In Argentina, the trend is that teachers are in charge of technolgy and they don't seem to be so happy with this new challenge!!

In our building each classroom teacher also teaches the students how to use the technology.  In some classrooms we integrate the use of technology throughout the curriculum.

In Germany it is more or less like in Argentina. We don't have an ICT teacher until later on in the upper grades. At my school, we are fortunate enough to have quite a lot of computer equipment compared to other schools in Germany. It is still not very common to use ICT in all school subjects.

This is very different in Great Britain as it is part of the whole school curriculum there. No matter what subject you teach you have to be able to implement ICT in your lessons. There are also ICT teachers, ICT coordinators and ICT technicians.

In our district, which is in  small town in Missouri, teachers are mostly responsible for teaching technology.  In the upper grades 5-12, there is a full-time computer teacher.  In the lower grades K-4, the teachers can take their students to the computer lab with lessons prepared, and a technology assistant is there for extra hands.  The assistant does not teach but is there to help out or help the teachers search for ideas.  I would love to see a full-time computer teacher in the elementary grades.

Hello, I am a technology teacher from a school in Hyderabad, India. In our school, we have a couple of technology teachers who integrate what students study in their respective classes with the skills they need to learn on the computer and devise ICT projects for each grade. Our school has around 370 children and 25 students per class. So this arrangement relieves the class teacher of that chore, especially if she is hard up for time and is not too computer savvy!!

In our district (New York district, USA) we have technology benchmarks for K-5 that are embedded into the curriculums.  Teachers are hopefully incorporating these benchmarks into projects that they do throughout the year. (I say hopefully because, of course every teacher's comfort level with technology is different)

When students get to the middle school they do take an Informational Technology class that teaches Word, PowerPoint, Internet Safety, Excel...
We also have a district IT teacher who helps teachers integrate technology into their curriculum- unfortunately one of these people really isn't enough-  We are working on having other teachers pilot technologies and then be the "go to" people in their building to help teachers...  We also offer many technology workshops to our teachers on web access, podcasting, basic technology programs, Blackboard, Inspiration etc...
The key is letting teachers know that they have support... and someone that they can go to to get assistance.  Good luck-

Thanks to all of you for your responses. I see that here we are no so far behind from many other parts of the world and that the trend is to include ICT somehow. Many times the options are different according to economical resources. Of course, the more resorses you have, the more possiblities there are to implement ICt inthe classrom. here , heads are asking more and more teachers to implemente ICT but not everywhere conditions are suitable to do that,

Our school is in New Jersey in the USA.  We have 300 students and have a technology teacher who teaches them computers and computer literacy.  As librarian, I coordinate a couple of projects per year with this teacher.

By the way--off the subject--do you have anywhere near you that has a bird of prey center or a place where captive birds of prey can be viewed?  I am working on a project that on this.

thanks.
