Taking care of Dog's wound

My dog has a minor wound in his right front leg, It is still fresh.

How should I take care of the wound? Does antiseptics used for human are good for dogs as well?

To prevent infection, before handling the wound make sure that your hands and instruments are clean. Starting at the edges of the wound, clip the hair back to enlarge the area, cleanse the edges of the wound with a damp gauze or pad and irrigate the wound with clean water. You can apply antibiotic ointment. Then, take several pieces of clean gauze, place them over the wound and bandage. Older wounds with a covering of pus and scab you should cleanse with 3% hydrogen peroxide solution or a surgical soap before bandage.

It seems gross, but dogs naturally lick their wounds and it helps the healing process.

Yes, you can put some first aid antiseptic on it and then put a couple bandaids on it so it doesn't get infected, Your dog will probably try to chew it off but keeping it clear from bugs and debris is the key so it doesn't get more infected. If that doesn;t work call your vet and see if their is something they can do..

There is a new product that can be used to keep your pet from chewing off the bandage. It's called Scentsitive wound avoidance strips. The website has a video that explains how it works, it's at www.scentsitive.net .
