Best TV series ever -- no such thing?

We often see lists of "best 100 films of all times" or "best 100 albums", but I only saw a list of best TV series once or twice. I tried to think about reasons for this, and the only explanation I could think of was the TV series are very related to the time when they are made, and an excellent TV series made 20 years ago wouldn't be very interesting to us now.

What do you think about this notion? Can you suggest other explanations?

Why do you say that there's no

such thing?

I guess I gave my question the wrong title. As I said, I did see lists of best TV shows, but I'm not sure if they have any significance because I'm not sure if I could enjoy watching "I Love Lucy". This show has very little to do with my life.

According to a beta web site called "The best stuff in the world" there is not a single artistic genre which can not be graded and comparatively listed. So, for them TV series are no

exception.

If I can't answer it, I'll at least make up something that sounds plausible.

There is such a thing, and it's called "The Wire."

it comes down to personal preference.  However, I think you could easily compile a list by conduction a simple survey.

My favorite tv series is the "Desperate Housewives". Because it has good production and the cast are great.
