I have a laser mouse, sure beats the the touchpad. My problem, when i select "disable touchpad when other pointing device is attached", it doesn't do so. The touchpad remains enabled. It is a headache when typing. It worked originally, but now i can't temporarily disable it. I also fear that if i click both options to disable the pad and buttons, i will be at a loss if my mouse fails. I am new with this  system. There is a way to override the mouse, i simply have not found it yet.
