This is definitely a problem but a very common one. There are many possible explanations but I believe the solution is making them understand that this is their part of running the household. Whatever their reason may be they'll have to get over it. If necessary you can have them earn privileges in return for their house work.

The important thing is to start with this education young because later it's harder to educate children to this type of work.

If those kids drive your car you can easily control them. Start by setting them a list of chores you want them to do  every day and weekly. If they say they can't listen to them and try to work it out with them. If they wont do a thing to help you can easily take the PS from their room.

RE: What do you when you have a teenagers that don ...

I recently sent an email to all my friends asking if their kids and teens had chores.  ALL of them had chores (even if they had a weekly housekeeper).  One friend gave me an idea of an Earning Opportunity chart.  I list various chores and their values (dishes, folding laundry, cleaning bathtub, etc.)  The ones that I really want done, or ones that require more work have a higher value ($5-$10).  The easy ones, or ones that I don't care about are only $1.  The first day, without me having to say a word, my teenager cleaned the bathtub, toilet and sink!  My younger son took the dog for a walk, fed all the animals, took out the trash.  I had no idea it would work so well! I basicalluy just put them in charge of what chores they wanted to do based on how much they wanted to earn.
