Is there a difference between the way Europe (specifically Germany) and the U.S. document tuberculosis vaccinations -- in a child's shot records, for example?
My friend and her son are here from Germany and his shot records indicate "pos" next to TB. She has always been very conscientious about him getting all the vaccines he needs. She says that in Germany, the "pos" indicates that the vaccine is still working, rather than meaning he has the TB virus or antibodies as we would interpret it in the U.S.
She is trying to get him enrolled in school here in West Virginia and they are telling her he needs to have a chest x-ray because of the "pos" indication. She says that the German and American ways of recording the vaccination are simply opposite, but she can't get anyone at our local health department here to listen to her.
If all this is true (and I fully believe what she says), is there a web site where I could print off something explanatory about the way Germany does things?
Thanks for any help folks! Internet searches have gotten me no closer to explaining any of this.
