Come on people!! Our government can't keep out the illegals or the terrorists. How are they going to take care of a virus effectively?!!! Seriously i leave the medicine to the doctors not the government.  As for it coming in from the mexicans get a grip its not all their fault. Think b4 you speak. How IGNORANT!

 (Readingmother and Barbjmac, Hello)

From what I've read, this flu is being transmitted from person to person, that's why there is the concern that it could become pandemic or worldwide. It has 3 DNA components - swine, bird, and human. It's a mutated virus that does not respond to older antiviral medication.

Anyone who has a compromised immune system is at a higher risk for infection, but this virus seems to attack healthy adults between the ages of 20-40, at least in Mexico. It's hard to tell because the Mexican authorities didn't seem to realize that this was a different type of flu virus and didn't send samples to the CDC for analysis until it was too late. This flu is acting like the 1918 Spanish Flu, affecting young adults harder instead of children and older adults.

You may remember there was news of a late spring flu that came out about a month ago. I don't remember the details, only that this flu virus didn't follow the normal pattern of other flu viruses, and lots of people seemed to be getting the flu at a strange time of the year.

The difference between this Swine Flu and the Bird Flu is that the Swine flu IS transmitted between humans , the bird flu has the possibility of doing that but still transmits between birds and humans, not people to people.

I'm a Nurse Practitioner living about 2 hours from the Mexican border, belong to a volunteer medical reserve unit that's called up for health emergencies, so I stay informed of the facts, but I am concerned about the hysteria if it leads health workers to be unable to treat people effectively.

I'm VERY concerned about the Swine Flu Virus. First thing we can do is close the boarder; Second thing - close all the California schools for at least three days; Next: don't allow anyone in from Mexico without holding them for five days in quarantine. There are many other things to do. Wake up everyone !   This is SERIOUS!  Doesn't anyone know their history any more?  Look up the Spanish Influenza of 1918 -- we may be in for something similar.

We can't even stop the illegals from crossing the Mexico - U.S. Border, how does one expect that we can stop the Swine Flu coming across the border with them, especially with our Homeland Security Advisor, Janet Napalitano pulling our resources from off that very border and reasigning them to the Canada - U.S. Border where she states our real threat is. Claiming that the 911 attacks was the fault of the Canadian Government, not identifying the terrorists, when in all actuality, the attackers were here on school Visas given to them by our own government where we know the only school they attended was flight school where they leaned how to fly big planes into very tall buildings.  So as this new wave of attacks begin, this time in the form of a Pandemic Flu, our focus is on our honorable neighbors to our north.  She has also placed her other focus on our returning soldiers, who fought to defend us from our attackers, believing they are the new terrorists. Another job well done by Obama and his inept comrades.

Thank you for your 'sane' response to the question. I have elderly parents in poor health, ages 88 and 92. Anything specific I can do to protect them besides keeping them somewhat isolated from highly populated areas -- malls, grocery stores, etc.?

Yes I am very concerned about the swine flu. And why is our government waiting so long to make a flu vaccine for this? Are they waiting for people here in the USA to die first before saying oh dang we messed up we should of had the swine flu shot for all the people.
