Surgery on leg tibal fracture

I have had 2 lift leg tibal surgery and I would like to know if someone out there could help me doctor want me to see aother doctor, because the bone dose not want to heal, so the rod was replace on 1-4-8, now the doctors may have to put a plate on the bone now, why should I get the rod remove? or can I keep the rod in and have them put the plate on instead? will it hurt the leg.I go back to the doctor on 4-10-8 thanks worry now.HHHHHELP
