Supper table topics for the family

Our 4 children range in age from 8 to 18. What are some good topics to discuss at the supper table?

School, friends, activities they are involved in, upcoming plans, current movies, music, sports and even trivia.

Have fun and share the great time with your children. Good luck and best wishes.

Maybe have a dinner table basket where everyone writes a question onto a slip of paper and you pick one out randomly and discuss it..it could be a fun game that would engage everyone. Also, I'm sure the kids would love to both talk about themselves as well as hear about what their parents have been doing throughout the day.

Anything goes but I would suggest everyone telling something they want to share with the other members of the family and see where it goes from there. the trick is to try and include everyone though this is sometimes impossible. Just make sure you don't talk about the same thing the whole meal.

Never Quit! Never Give Up!

start with the oldest and what they want to accomplish in the short term and then move on to the long term. use this base for a later, more drawn out conversation about the ways to achieve their goals. next move on down until you get to the youngest of the children and be sure to give the same attention and respect to them as you did to the eldest.  starting with the older kids will show the younger ones the proper mindset to have in later life. (hopefully, anyway)

I like pixiedust's idea. It's creative and it will definitely spice up conversations over supper. But i guess the safe topics can be school, movies, music and books -- so they can be encouraged to read.

School, sports and recreational activities or hobbies that are shared commonly by the family members. Also, upcoming important events or reunions is a good topic. Sharing friendly jokes and family bloopers would lighten the talk.
