Manage Stress

  • Anxiety or emotional stress may worsen fibromyalgia symptoms. To deal with the condition naturally, incorporate stress management techniques into your everyday life--perform breathing exercises or listen to relaxing music. Other simple ways to reduce stress include developing a schedule, avoiding procrastination and recognizing your physical and mental limitations.
  • Along with widespread pain, fatigue is a common symptom of fibromyalgia. Lack of sleep contributes to this problem, but you can combat fatigue by developing a healthy sleep pattern that includes going to bed the same time each night and allotting eight hours for sleep.
  • Exercise is highly recommended for fibromyalgia syndrome. Being active reduces muscle and joint pain, decreases fatigue and improves your mental health (depression is another symptom of fibromyalgia). A good exercise routine consist of 30-minute workouts three to five days a week--swimming, walking, Pilates or light aerobics. Speak with a physician before beginning an exercise routine.
  • Decreased spinal mobility plays a role in chronic pain. However, regular chiropractic care helps to adjust or realign your spine, which can reduce pain associated with fibromyalgia syndrome. Chiropractors employ a host of manipulative therapies to realign the spine. Because these therapies are risky, select a licensed professional.
  • Massage therapy is another natural cure for fibromyalgia syndrome. A licensed massage therapist uses her hands to manipulate the soft tissues in your body, which increases blood circulation, promotes healing and eases tense muscles. What's more, massages prompt the release of endorphins--a natural pain reliever
