 Be honest and be true to yourself.

In married couples, separate properties mean that whatever one of spouses acquire before marriage will be his or her own property. If the marriage will end up in divorce, the other party will not get a part of the property. This will be better if both parties will agree that whatever each one acquired before marriage, the other one does not have a right to it. This is called a quit claim deed, has to be notarized and to be kept in a safe place.
