Which do you think is more important in high school, having street smarts (knowing how to get by, not being intimidated by bullies, etc.) or being book smart (getting good grades, being teacher's pet, stuff like that)?
Hello,
I think being book smart is more important. One of the goals every school should have is preparing its students for higher education. In todays competitive world it's necessary for kids to get relatively high grades in order to move forward in life and to be able to make their dreams come true. I believe schools should help their students achieve these ambitions.
Don't get me wrong though. I think that street smarts are just as important for succeeding in life but I think there are other sources that kids can get this type of education from. Therefore I think the emphasis should be put on book smarts.
You need both, but more importantly while in
The first step can take you anywhere!
They both go hand in hand. knowledge feeds itself wherever it comes from, to form the person as a whole. To just be book smart would leave you with no common sense with which to interact with others. Then again we see all to often what happens when people have no education. You will be lucky to get anywhere. Education is books & life experience. Also people do like to see proof of an education. PS. I needed to re-sit my maths & English O levels due to thinking i could get by without an education (at 43)
