My car has been making a strange noise whenever I turn. What could it be?
Check the fluid level in the power steering unit.
When I had this it was the Universal Joint - it was years ago.
It could be a number of things. What type of noise is it making? Is it only when you make a turn? It could be something as simple as needing power steering fluid or needing your power steering belt tightened or replaced. I would need more information about how it sounds and drives before I could more specific. Let me know.
GIVE a man a fish and you feed him for a day. TEACH a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.
SADLY, most fishermen are afraid to touch the worm.
Likely your belt buckle rubbing on the steering wheel (G)
That's what it would be in my truck.
cv joints
It usually happens when I take a sharp turn. It's sort of a rattling sound and I feel the steering wheel shaking a bit.
Thanks for the help.
It sounds like it could be the cv joints or constant velocity joint. Is it front wheel drive? The cv joint is a flexible coupling that allows the outer wheel to steer, and the shaft to follow the up and down motions of the suspension as the vehicle travels down the road. There are outer and inner cv joints. The outer cv joint wears out at a faster rate because of the increased operating angles as the wheels steer. The inner cv joint on many exchange shafts are in good condition and can be safely reused. A clicking or popping noise when turning is one the indications of cv joint problems.
Hi,
if your car has front wheel drive the CV joints are bad.
