Stomach flattening exercises?

What are the best stomach flattening exercises?

I have a weak lower back so I don't think crunches are a good option for me.

Any ideas, Thanks

I think you should concentrate on low contact stomach flattening exercises.

Swimming is good, it's easy on the joints, and focuses on the core - a good workout for your abs and back muscles.

Crunches are a definite no no. But an excellent option, instead of pivoting the top half of your body, is lifting and lowering the bottom half ... leg raises:

Lie on a flat surface, start with the knees bent and raise to your chest, as you get stronger you can do the exercise with straight legs for greater effect.

The great thing about strengthening your stomach muscles is that it will also strengthen your lower back at the same time.

For more info check out Mike Geary's guide to losing stubborn stomach fat and getting a flat stomach - truth about abs and flat stomachs

It's the top abs program on the internet.

Hope that helps.

A common misconception is that you can flatten stomach exercises through routines concentrated mostly on the abs - nope, you will need to combine stomach flattening exercises with a mostly aerobic routine.

Jordy has already suggested swimming, of course walking 20 - 40 minutes every second day will help.

And of course a healthy diet of unprocessed high fiber foods can't do any harm.

The best stomach-flattening exercise is to: REFRAIN FROM EXERCISING THE ELBOW. (are you smiling? Smile).

As a Certified Master Fitness Trainer, I have to remind clients that it is IMPOSSIBLE to spot reduce (as much as the "infomercials" would like to tell us otherwise). NUTRITION is crucial.

You can strengthen and tone the muscles beneath the skin and fat, but the only way to reduce the size of the stomach is through combining healthy nutrition with cardio, monitored resistance training (because of your lower back issue) AND flexibility/stretching movements (which I highly recommend to assist with the back issue).

Success to you.

I had knee surgery years ago.  I could not do any bending exercises because of the removal of part of my kneecap.   I also had lower back pain - my only problem.  I was told to lie flat on the floor, lift each (straight) leg, three times a day, working up to 100 times each.   If my back gave me a problem, put the one leg, not being lifted in a bent position with the foot flat on the floor.   Otherwise, if the back gave me no problem, keep the leg not being lifted lieing loose on the floor beside the leg being lifted.   I started out with 20-25 and it was easy to do 100 each time after about two weeks.  I have to tell you - I never had such a flat stomach.    It took awhile, but it helped my hips, back and legs.   You may want to give it a try - little by little is the safe way.  Other cardio work is better for all of your body to improve but a flat stomach was no problem with this simple method of leg lifts.

Some good stomach flattening exercises / stomach strengthening exercises are with planks! They're tough - my boyfriend has a herniated disk and that's one of the ab exercises they used in his physical therapy

And  go to a sauna and use a sauna belt..
sauna belts, I think they're out on markets now.

I think that stomach crunches are the core of all stomach exercises. And can be considered as basic exercises. We should think about them as a part of our normal training program. We can do them at the beginning of you training or at the end. The important thing is to be systematic. To get flat stomach don’t forget about lower muscles on your belly. They  are very important. They have to be strong before you can start with upper part. Lifting legs is very good for it as a start then scissors and maybe weider’s six. Remember about diet, no fat food is the most important rule. I also believe that cardio exercise are very good for getting flat stomach. They are also very good for your heart and the whole body. Isn’t it great? Important is to keep training level on average level of intensity and for long time. High intense training will burn first the carbohydrates not the fat from the stomach for example. So no high but average training.

The best exercise for flattening the stomach comprises of toe touching. Stand with your feet joined with each other. Raise your hands above your head, in a straight line. Now, bend down and try to touch your toes. Come back to the original position and bend again. Start with a set of 10 repetitions and slowly increase the number. Make sure to exhale while going down and inhale while coming back up.

Having a flat stomach requires a lifestyle change, not just more exercise. Stomach Flattening is Doug Setter's guide to putting one's body through the lifestyle change it needs to change its life for the better. The book goes way beyond simply flattening your stomach. After convincingly explaining the importance of having a flat stomach, the author provides a road map for how to do so in a very clear and concise way.
