Stephen Harper and Parliament

I can't believe what I just heard about Stephen Harper suspending the Canadian parliament.  Is Canada's Prime Minister really allowed to do this?  Is it justified?

This is what he asked the Govenor General to do and since she is the Queen of England's representative in Canada (also the head of state) she has the final say.

I personally don't agree with it and find it to be a dodgy move. Probably only delay his downfall.

One thing for sure it sure has stirred up lots of opinions with the Canadian public from all sides of the political spectrum.
