Staying warm

Hi Eric, I have a 3.5 year old home. The only concern we have is that in the winter when we turn on the central air, it takes a while to warm up and once we turn it off, it losses warmth very quickly. Any suggestions? What could be the problem. We have wood floors on all two level, minus the kitchen.
