Start up costs for social networking website

I'm wondering what the costs are to start up a social networking website with drag and drop technology, the ability to have at least a few thousand new registered users each day to create profiles upload photos and comment on others photos.

Unfortunatelyit is rather difficult to say what the costs are with this limited amount of information. Fortunately there is a substantial amount of software in the public domain that may be able to get you started without a huge commitment of capital. You may want to go to Liferay.com and take a look at their public domain capability. You may need to hire a technical consultant to navigate the geek ease that seems to be everywhere, but I think their capabilities may be a good start for you.

There are also simpler alternatives. I cannot remember the name, but their is a good outfit in Austin that has a turnkey solution and can provide consulting and hosting services for you effort. I suspect that if you go to Google and type in social network comapnies and Austin you will find them. Byn the Way you may want to talke a look at the  by the drink hosting solutions now available from Amazon. I think they call it Amazon Web Services. this is a very inexpensive , yet expansive way to host whatever application you develop.

I hope this is helpful,

Actually, your cost to develop the site will be less than $2,000. But, the problem is that there are so many social networking sites all over the world. Making the people to visit and stay in your site is the most difficult part. That's where even sites like friendster failed.

I would suggest that you write a business plan.  You can find a good summary of what goes into a business plan in the business articles in the

useful resources section of this site.  Also try the business planner at SCORE Portland

We are two young entrepreneurs with past successful projects; we are currently in negations with web developers and web designers.

Our aim is to launch a social network website, which can compete and surpass with the top five established social networking sites.

We are keen to hear feedback from individuals telling us the likes/ dislikes and any ideas or features that are not yet incorporated in these large social networking sites. However we are also looking for individuals who would like to be involved in the testing stage of the site development.

If you would like to take part in our project please forward on your email address to
