Fantasy Football Team Preview: Patriots

by Matt Snyder Filed under: Draft Advice With Fantasy Football season ready to kick in high gear, FanHouse is here to preview each and every team -- one per day until we've done them all. Meet The ... Troops of Tom Brady. Yes, there are plenty of guys on this team who matter -- not sure if you've heard of Randy Moss, for example -- but this season it is all about the health of Tom Brady. He's going to be nearly a year removed from tearing his ACL in 2008 when the season begins. Now that Matt Cassel is gone, the weight of the team of on Brady's shoulders. Really, the picture here is perfect. There are guys in the background wearing the same uniform, but they are a bit blurry. Brady is front and center, and the focus of the photo. UFC 100 Fan Expo: Vinny Magalhaes, Kimbo...

by Michael David Smith Filed under: UFC The UFC Fan Expo taking place next weekend in Las Vegas in conjunction with UFC 100 has added some star power, as the UFC has announced a series of grappling matches and appearances by Kimbo Slice and the rest of the cast of The Ultimate Fighter 10. The grappling matches feature some of the best jiu jitsu players in the world, and I'm personally most excited about seeing Vinny Magalhaes , who appeared on the eighth season of The Ultimate Fighter. Magalhaes lackst the striking to compete in the UFC, but he's amazing on the ground. He'll be fun to watch, although the UFC hasn't yet said who he's facing.UFC 100 Fan Expo: Vinny Magalhaes, Kimbo Slice and More originally appeared on Fanhouse MMA Blog on Thu, 02 Jul 2009 08:06:00 EDT . Starting Five: Jerry Manuel Throws Mets On...

by Jeff Fletcher Filed under: Cubs , Diamondbacks , Marlins , Mets , Nationals , Yankees , Starting Five Starting Five is our wrapup of the previous day's baseball action, with a quick nod to what is ahead. You Oughta Know ... That the Mets not only snapped their five-game losing streak, but they did their part to save the world on Wednesday. After manager Jerry Manuel' s team meeting in the wake of Tuesday's loss, the Mets all came to the ballpark on Wednesday on buses , instead of players arriving individually in cabs. Although the team-building experience may have actually done more to save on fuel than to actually bond, the result was a 1-0 victory. Manuel wasn't going to take credit for his speech firing up the team, especially since pitcher Mike Pelfrey missed it. Pelfrey had left the ballpark early Tuesday night to get some rest."I told him, 'If he'd been at the meeting, he would have thrown a no-hitter,' " Manuel joked. Artest to Cavs Rumor Heats Up on Twitter

by Brett Pollakoff Filed under: Cavaliers , Rockets , NBA Rumors , NBA Twitter As if Cleveland wasn't already a focal point of the NBA universe, it may be reaching a whole new level of crazy. A brand of crazy NBA fans only know as ... Ron Artest . The Cleveland Plain Dealer was the first to report on the possibility, but even coming from super-reliable Brian Windhorst, it was still just your run of the mill free agency rumor; a possibility to keep an eye on. That was until Artest decided to fan the flames a bit by informing the world that his days in Houston were over -- via his Twitter page , naturally.Artest to Cavs Rumor Heats Up on Twitter originally appeared on Fanhouse NBA Blog on Thu, 02 Jul 2009 02:01:00 EDT . Bill Weber Out, Ralph Sheheen In for TNT

by Geoffrey Miller Filed under: NASCAR Media Watch , Sprint Cup After what the Charlotte Observer is calling a "loud confrontation " at a Manchester, N.H., hotel prior to last Sunday's Lenox 301 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway , TNT play-by-play announcer Bill Weber won't be returning to the booth in 2009. The network announced the move Wednesday, and also confirmed that Ralph Sheheen will continue in the replacement role for the final two TNT races this weekend in Daytona Beach and next at Chicagoland. Sheheen did a bang-up job in his first coverage of a Sprint Cup race on Sunday, but the bigger question surrounds what exactly Weber did to force himself out of the booth for what will ultimately be half of TNT's NASCAR coverage.Bill Weber Out, Ralph Sheheen In for TNT originally appeared on Fanhouse Motorsports Blog on Thu, 02 Jul 2009 00:18:00 EDT . Grizzlies Trade for Zach Randolph, Continue...

by Matt Moore Filed under: Clippers , Grizzlies OK, sure. They traded their franchise player a year and a half ago for Kwame Brown and some Skittles. And yes, with the No. 2 pick they managed to select the only basketball player available who's biggest weakness is his ability to put the little ball in the big circle with the net attached (which I hear is kind of important). But hey, they needed to rebuild, and they rebuilt. But they have tons of cap space now, so much in fact, that they're actually under the CBA limit and have to spend some. So they've stopped torturing their fans with one terrible decision after another right? Right? Guys? Anybody? Oh, hi Zach Randolph . What are you ... doing ... here ...? Oh, no .Grizzlies Trade for Zach Randolph, Continue War on Fans originally appeared on Fanhouse NBA Blog on Wed, 01 Jul 2009 22:56:00 EDT . Please see our terms for use of feeds . NCAA Eliminates Useless Component From...

by Chas Rich Filed under: March Madness , Media Watch , NCAA Tournament Among the many criteria the NCAA Tournament Selection Committee uses to select and seed the 65 teams for the NCAA Tournament, the most statistically irrelevant is the "last twelve games" criteria. The NCAA has finally seen the light and eliminated the last twelve games from the toolbox . There are many reasons for the stat's uselessness. There is little statistical correlation to how a team finished their season, and that team's performance in the NCAA Tournament. It is generally misleading, especially in the power conferences where TV scheduling emphasizes that the projected top teams play each other later in the season while the teams expected in the lower half face each other.NCAA Eliminates Useless Component From Tournament Selection originally appeared on Fanhouse NCAA Basketball Blog on Wed, 01 Jul 2009 22:35:00 EDT . Blazers Targeting Wrong Small Forward

by Nate Jones Filed under: Trail Blazers , NBA Rumors Rumors have run wild that Orlando Magic free agent Hedo Turkoglu is the main target of the Portland Trail Blazers this free-agent season. The Blazers are in need of veteran leadership and help at the small forward position, but I'm not sure that Turkoglu is the answer. Turkoglu was extremely effective with the Magic this postseason, but that doesn't mean he's the right piece for the Blazers. If I were the Blazers, I would target Lakers free-agent small forward Trevor Ariza .Blazers Targeting Wrong Small Forward originally appeared on Fanhouse NBA Blog on Wed, 01 Jul 2009 22:30:00 EDT . A Look at Montreal's Roster Overhaul

by Adam Gretz Filed under: Canadiens , NHL Free Agency The Montreal Canadiens entered the offseason with the always dangerous combination of salary cap space and open roster spots. It didn't take Bob Gainey long to start reconstructing his roster, making the head-scratching trade for Scott Gomez and his gigantic contract on Tuesday, a move that was panned by pretty much every analyst/blogger/and fan outside of New York City. On Wednesday, when the free agent frenzy officially opened, Gainey continued his roster overhaul, and essentially cornered the market on small, undersized forwards, and reunited Gomez with one of his former teammates from his New Jersey glory days.A Look at Montreal's Roster Overhaul originally appeared on Fanhouse NHL Blog on Wed, 01 Jul 2009 22:30:00 EDT . It's just that, even though Michael Jackson is everybody's favorite icon, he mostly belongs to us. I'm referring to those of us from northern Indiana. He couldn't become the biggest celebrity of all time until he discovered ways to surpass the elite of the elite within his own state. Actually, I should say within his own region. Chatting Waiver Wire, Closers and Sell High...

by Knox Bardeen Filed under: MLB Always Be Closing , MLB Waiver Wire We're almost exactly at the halfway mark of the major league season. If you're really going to make that final run for the title you need to make careful and calculating roster moves from this point forward. On Tuesday, I spoke with Sid Rosenberg on OPENSports.com about some pitchers and hitters that you can easily find on the waiver wire. We also spoke about major league teams using the closer by committee system and how to handle that on your fantasy team. And finally, we spoke about guys like Mark Reynolds and Adam Jones and let you in on why you should consider unloading these guys at a premium.
