Many spices have suggestions right on the label (Spice Islands brand and also McCormick Schilling).
Additionally, if you do not have a good basic cookbook then I suggest you invest in one or two. Check used book stores in your area and browse through the selection of standards, then select whatever appeals. (I like the Joy of Cooking, Good Housekeeping and James Beard.)
I don't know a little about everything, but I do know a lot about some things!

As a retired Executive Chef, I can give you some very important info.on what to use. ALL cook's are restricted by 2 things. #1, is FEAR, when you are afraid it might get ruined, so you don't take chances. #2, Imagination, All I can say on this is, Take chances, if you think it should taste good, it probably will. The way new dishes are made is by doing just this. Try it, If it works and taste's good, go for it. If not, well don't do try that again but try something else. All you have lost is the thing you tried , but you have gained knowledge. Everyone is a good cook, the difference between a pro. and an Amt. is Pro's take chances and say,"I wonder what this will taste", like and they try it. An amt." Is afraid to try".I doubt that you have had anyone tell you that the food you have cooked taste "BAD". Everyone can cook, but the real one's take chances. Hope you try everything. Good Luck. Gary
I forgot, As far as spices go. The same applys to any spices. Look at a cook book, and see what it says as far as spices go. If you want Italian look at Italian items and so on. Again, Go for it. Gary
Please look at the website below.
Hope this helps.
