Spanish armada

As far as my memory serves me ARMADA is a fleet of ships. 
So Spanish Armada is a fleet of spanish ships.

The Spanish Armada is that sailed to battle the English fleet in 1588, under the command of the Duke of Medina Sidona. The Armada consisted of about 130 warships and converted merchant ships. On August 8th 1588 the Armada was defeated by an English fleet aided by Dutch ships, under the command of Sir John Hawkins and .Francis Drake.

The dictonary classifies "Armada" as "Large fleet",The Spanish"Large fleet" consisted of 130 vessels, Manned by 31.000 men, mostly soldiers who were brought  to invade our shores. They where not intended to be cought up in a sea battle, plus with the weather on the side of the British we where able to beat the "Spanish Armada" of 1588
