I am half way through phase 1 of the south beach diet and am experiencing intense itching of my neck, thighs, feet and palms. Some locations (inner thighs) are breaking out in small raised bumps. Is this due to the diet?
I am not sure if this has anything to do with the diet, but it's probably a good idea to contact your doctor about this. It could be that your body is giving you "warning signals" about the diet or something else, but it could also be nothing.
Yes high protein diets trigger the body to use stored fat for energy instead of glucose, this is good source of energy for your organs , however, the fat metabolites can trigger the release of histamines. Make sure you hydrate your body, drink plenty of water, take antihistamines on acute attacks, moisturizing creams, mild wash gels, and best of all see your physician for blood and urine workup.

Sounds to me like you might have an allergic reaction to something in the plan. Have you tried any natural weight loss programs? here are some that have been reviewed and work well http://www.journeydownthescale.info

I guess you are experiencing allergic reaction. It's better to visit a doctor before it became worst. Also you might want to try natural weight loss products like South Beach Acai .
