Are soldiers allowed to question their commanding officers decisions or instructions? If a soldier thinks what he’s asked to do is illegal, can he refuse to do this?
Yes but it is very rare, and the reaction changes from army to army, usually it happens when soldiers are asked to deal with citizens - mainly when they are asked to kill innocent ones. After the soldier refuses the order he would usually stand for a trial – and the judge (a military personal) will have to decide what the punishment will be.
