Snails in my fresh-water aquarium.

I've got hundreds of small snails in my fresh-water aquarium, the problem being that I've added absolutely nothing to the aquarium in six months other than water.  No new fish, no plants, nothing.  I have changed fish food.  Can someone please help me?  Can fish food bought from a fish store contain snail eggs that would develop?

therer is a product called HAD A SNAIL that will kill the snails in your tank. sounds like you must have had 1 snail and that it all it takes. they can reproduce alone..follow the directions on the container and  you should become snail free... also if you do not want to use the  product i have suggested,, if you put   a fish called Clown Loach in the tank it will eat the snails.. get a couple of them...good luck

one thing I learned about snails is never ever put one in your tank. they are asexual and in no time you will have tons of them. I would throw away everything and start fresh. You can see the babies because they are usually laid on the glass it will look like a little clear spot with lots of dots in it. It could be that they are laid in the rocks where you cant see them.
