I made a heat bag with beans *navy and when I heat it, it smells like sour milk. I know the beans were good and the fabric is fleece. I had another one smell the same. What am I missing? I even tried puting mint tea in the bag with not much success. Thanks, Jane
hmmm. I'm stumped Jane, it shouldn't smell like that. What type of fleece are you using? Were both bags made with the same material (navy beans and fleece)?
The first one a bought at a garage sale, I'm not sure whats in it , but the smell isn't as bad. The other one I just made yesterday, with beans out of my pantry, so I know they were fresh. The fleece I used was from 2 yrs ago, a project I never finished. But the fabric was in a plastic box in the house. I am going to try, cotton and rice today. the mint tea I added later smelled nice but could not overpower the sour smell. Thanks for trying to help! Its driving me crazy
I actually found beans to be too expensive. I use corn that my son buys to feed deer. It's cheap and when it's heated it smells lile popcorn! I have also used rice but still found the corn is better and cheaper. Plus it's hard keeping rice in my house because my 4 year great grandson loves it! He's not Asian! Just a little SC redneck.
I was just using what I had onhand, my son fell down the basement stairs and I wanted to be ready for the am when he woke up sore! I will try the corn later, but am still wondering why the awful smell!
Perhaps the beans are sweating in the microwave. This would explain the smell, nothung smells worse than soured beans.
I have tried several things. I found that pearl barley works well and is cheap at groc. stores that have bulk bins. Good luck. An oil essence works well to the barley to make it smell good when heated.
Rice & a tube sock works great! The oils are a great idea I never thought of!
