Hi, first thing I would suggest (because I don't have any experience with babies with reflux) is check with your pediatrition before trying the below suggestions.
It would be helpful to know HOW you put your baby to sleep.
- One of the top reasons why babies wake up at night at this stage is they are growing. Which means they could be requiring more to eat, or something of more substanance to eat as a last meal. It may be time to start with cereal or another first baby food to help with growing baby and hunger. It just might be the reflux isn't being helped by a liquid only diet. Try a cereal bottle before bed.
- Another reason is teething. It hurts and babies can't always sleep through the pain. Check his/her gums. Often a teething baby will want a bottle. Not because they are hungry but because it gives them something to chew on to help their gums feel better. Sometimes they end up drinking it just because it they don't have an option while chewing on the nipple.
- Along with teething, some babies become very congested when teething- or before cutting a tooth. There is a large amount of pressure that builds up around the sinus area and that causes mucus. Our daughter sleeped upright in her car seat for weeks each time she was about to cut a tooth. Keeping her upright helped to be able to breath better and she was able to sleep through the night.
- Growing pains. Some babies grow easier than others. My daughter has reported cramping and muscle pains during growth spurts ever since she could talk. Our pediatrition, as early on in the toddler months, recomended we give her baby tylenol before bed time during her growth spurts to easy fussiness and help her to get the sleep she needed.
I AM NOT RECOMENDING YOU MEDICATE YOUR CHILD . Please call or email your pediatrition about the above ideas and suggestions and discuss it with him/her.
I hope you are able to get baby well and sleeping again soon.
Best,
Pseudopal.
